More art! A work in progress...

2011-01-18 22:35:35 by Vonschlippe

I'm just dropping a tiny screencrap of what I'm working on right now! It's, as some of you might recognize, a terran ghost intended as a "sequel" to my terran medic drawing. It will be close to a full-body shot, and it should feature even more detail and textures than any of my previous works so far.

I'm using a lot of references from blizzard's trailers and concept art for Starcraft. I intend for it to be filled with details regarding the starcraft universe (such as the background, or the markings on the armor)

So far I'm 25 hours into it, and it's perhaps 40% complete. Since I'm a full-time engineering student, I can only progress in my spare time, and I can't say there's a lot of that available... So I hope to be done before the end of the semester!

Hope you like the sneak peek!

That looks incredible, really. I envy your devotion to your artistic endeavor - as creative and artistic as I feel, I don't really have the necessary skill to put myself into a project like this. I have met other artists and they are really all devoted to their craft like any noble artisan. Maybe someday I'll learn to draw something that isn't just 'okay' and will amaze others, but until then I have to get all the bad drawings out - all 945,837,212,045,113 of them. I have the proper decency not to show them to anyone, so you can thank me for that, ha!

Vonschlippe responds:

Thank you for your kind words :)

I have never forced myself to draw, for it is usually something I do in my spare time or when I need to relax. That way, it doesnt really feel like I'm devoted to art! You are absolutely right by wanting to avoid showing your drawings... I very rarely showed my stuff until near the end of high school. Just wasnt confident enough. Drawing is a game of practice, and it's also a very personnal thing. Your approach towards improving can be guided through peer feedback, but I have always preferred rectifying thing myself!

Keep practicing, and confidence will grow!!

Hopefully your projects don't end up like mine--and by the looks of the detail and commitment you put into them, they won't--that end up forgotten or ignored to the point where starting from scratch would probably be the fastest way to getting them done until I just lose any interest in actually working on them, so they get trashed.
It looks pretty awesome; being a full-time student myself, I know how little time you can have, but hopefully you'll meet your goal.
The girl kinda reminds me of Faith from Mirror's Edge.

In case no one has warned you already. I'd like to be the first to let you know that some of the Newgrounds community can be quite heartless at times, criticizing individuals based on personal aesthetics rather than overall quality and goal of the art, music, animation, or flash game. On behalf of these sorry saps, I formally apologize.

To proceed with what I intended to post: Your work is very well done, especially in terms of texture, balance, and proportion. You seem to have a firm grasp on the basic elements and principles and manage to apply them eloquently in your pieces. That being said, I've got you on a watch list, my friend. Hopefully your future works will just as, if not more, impressive than the last.

Cheers,
Alexz

Vonschlippe responds:

Thank you very much for your kind words! I don't think the Newgrounds community has been mean to me in any kind! In fact, I find people here give better critique and comments. I might have overreacted slightly at those who said I stole my own artwork however =P

I'm very happy you're keeping an eye out for my work. Thanks a lot :)
